An ancient Purim (the Jewish Halloween) tradition is to find your “shadow” – a trait that you hate in yourself, or one that you’re afraid that other people will see – mold that shadow into a character, and come to the Purim fest as that character.
This year was the second time that I’ve participated in a Purim party that puts this ancient custom front and center (which means there’s quite a lot of spiritual/emotional work whole weeks before the party begins) – and it is a thing, in the words of the Gamefeel above, of profound beauty.
There is much strength there, behind the parts of ourselves that we don’t like. There are revelations there. There is life. It is, indeed, the origin story of many a superpower…
